Winter is Coming

Winter is Coming

Eczema sucks.

About this time two years ago, I was experiencing a red, itchy rash all over my elbows, stomach, and neck. It sort of looked like hives, so I thought that's what it was!

I thought I was experiencing an allergic reaction to the coarse fibers from a newly gifted crochet blanket on my bed. Blanket had to go. Unfortunately, the itchy rash lingered. So I made an appointment with a dermatologist. She informed me I was suffering from seasonal eczema.

'Eczema' is a general term that describes red, itchy, dry, and/or inflamed skin. The dermatologist explained to me that a combination of factors during cold months can lead to eczema--dry air, wind, central heating, and coarse textiles like wool (that darn blanket.)

The dermatologist recommended Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream as a treatment. I went out to my local Walgreens, picked up a tub, and have been using it ever since.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream is a thick, white, and gentle extra-strength moisturizer. It's made with rich emollients and humectants to bind water to the skin and prevent moisture loss. Are you finding yourself reapplying and reapplying your current lotion to feel some sort of relief, but your skin still feels dry? This stuff will take care of that. I apply one layer to my entire body after I bathe, and feel moisturized for the rest of the day. I love that it doesn't contain any fragrance, which sometimes can irritate my skin right after I shave. It soothes the itchiness from my eczema, so I don't scratch as often, which means less redness.

I also use this cream on my face every day and night during the colder season. My face can feel SO tight and dry, even after I've washed it with a gentle cleanser. This is the only moisturizer I've used that provides relief. It is not greasy at all, but definitely leaves a healthy glow to my skin that I happen to like! This 16 oz tub can run anywhere between $15-$18 which may seem expensive, but it lasts forever!

If you're looking for a no-fuss multipurpose moisturizer for winter, head to your local drugstore and pick this up! I promise you'll throw away all your smelly, sparkly body lotions and lackluster face lotions, and just use this.

Till next time!

xoxo Livi
