My Top 3 Styling Products for Fine Curly Hair
Calling all curly girls far and wide--gather round, children. Are you feeling weighed down? Lifeless? Even a little bit...greasy?
Well honey, put down the coconut oil and listen. While I know we're all thrilled to have practically an entire aisle in Target of products designed for our naturally curly hair, it can be difficult to navigate if you are just beginning your natural hair journey. The key to styling fine textured curls is weightless moisture. Our texture can be easily weighed down with oils, creams, and butters, but can also feel dry if we don't use anything at all. Below are my top 3 styling products for fine, curly hair.
DevaCurl Light Defining Gel
This moisturizing watery gel gives me serious curl definition and a bouncy hold. I use this when I know it's going to be extra humid outside, because this gel surrounds each curl to create a frizz-fighting barrier. The hydrolyzed wheat and soy protein in it offers a major shine factor, and locks in moisture. No crunchy gel curls here!
Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam
I have been using this styling foam for years...and it definitely does not get enough attention in the natural hair world. My fine curls loves mousse, because mousse offers weightless volume, body, and touchable soft texture. What I love most about this product is that I can never go overboard using it, and I get consistent curls. This foam smells incredibly fresh and botanical, as it is scented with organic peppermint, ylang ylang, and bergamot.
OUAI Curl Jelly
If you are not a millennial girl with an Instagram account, then I wouldn't be surprised if you've never heard of OUAI Haircare. With it's inescapable social presence and Kardashian clout, OUAI is all about effortless cool-girl hair. I use this jelly when my curls need a little extra TLC, as it is a conditioning and repairing gel-oil formula. Getting the jelly to hair ratio right took a couple of tries, but once I figured it out, my curls looked soft, fluffy, and little undone...but in a cool Alicia Keys kind of way.
